Welcome to the Earn It Yourself MP3 store. New technology, same old story: the great music is made by underground bands and produced by underground labels, but the powerful media companies don't want to let you get it. They want you to keep buying the same bland mix of three or four different bands while THEY decide what is going to be the next cool thing. The thing is, the big labels and the mainstream media will NEVER understand the d.i.y. world. This site allows you to get real music made by real people who care about what they do and aren't just hoping to cash in on an advertisement for an SUV. In short, SCREW THAT. If you want some real music on your iPod, this is the place.

Part of the philosophy behind this site is that bands deserve to be compensated for their work. To that end, we're teaming up with New Disorder Records to allow you to sell your MP3s on the Earn It Yourself website. Uploading your songs is easy, and anyone can do it. When you tell your fans to buy your music on Earn It Yourself, they can come support you directly, knowing that your band is getting a larger share of the price of each MP3 or album they sell. New Disorder pays 50 cents for every download out of the cheap 75 cents per mp3. When a band sells their music this way, directly to their fans, there's no record label in the way to take a cut. Furthermore, bands can set a price for albums that they think is fair, as well as allowing songs to be downloaded for free. All songs for sale on this site are also listed on the New Disorder site, giving you access to more potential fans.

As a musician, you can easily check the status of your store. Royalty checks will be mailed out every month, as long as you are owed more than 10 dollars. If you are owed less, you may request a royalty check each month, and it will be sent out. There's no commitment either. If you want to sell your MP3s somewhere else, no problem. You can add your MP3s to the store or take them off any time you want.
